FCC IDs have been around since the late 1980's, hundreds of thousands of electronic devices having already been submitted, and more are submitted every day. As such, there are mountains of data avilable like the wireless frequenices they feature, test reports, company information and much more for public consumption. FCC Insights has compiled and sorted all of that data to realize various statistics and trends about the state wireless electronics and the companies who make them. Features such as wifi and bluetooth connectivity are becoming more prominent in everyday devices.
Every year, more companies apply for FCC grantee status and more ID's are submitted, leading the way for these products and devices to be released in the United States market. Companies like Apple, Samsung, Microsoft, and other huge technology vendors lead the way when it comes up number of FCC ID's held and products available in the database.
The total number of FCC ID's being submitted has increased every year besides a slow down in 2020. In 2022, the FCC saw the most ID submissions ever for a single year of 22,773, a 26.6% increase. This further shows the increase in electronics products being manufactured with wireless features.
Companies based in the United States and China dominate the number of FCC ID applications submitted and approved every year. 2020 was the first year more products were submitted to the FCC by companies based in China than the United States. For the past decade, Chinese companies have been steadily increasing their electronics output.
After peaking in 2015, Smartphone manufacturing and product releases have come down slightly. This probably having to do with only the best manufacturers succedding and maintaining yearly outputs of upgraded phones.
Smart watches are just beginning to take off in their product hype cycle. 2022 had the most product submissions with smart watch in their descriptions ever with 218 FCC IDs submitted. It will be fun to watch the rise of smart watches and other wearables and their wireless capabilties.
